Shannonville Motorsport Park is the undisputed proving ground of Canadian motorcycle racing, and for the minimoto kids, it’s a track that demands absolute respect.
Located just off the 401 near Belleville, Shannonville is where raw speed meets heavy braking. For the Ohvale 190s running in the FIM MotoMini Canada series, the long straights allow these bikes to really stretch their legs. But the speed comes with a cost: you have to be fearless on the brakes.
The layout forces a young rider to trust their front tire. Turn 1 requires massive commitment, and the hairpin sections demand a smooth, flowing rhythm. If you get it wrong, the track will punish your lap time immediately.
From a Race Dad's perspective, Shannonville is a fantastic place to spend a weekend. The paddock is sprawling, giving you plenty of room to set up the pop-up canopy, lay out the tools, and get the generators humming. Beyond the track itself, the facility has really stepped up recently. The new washrooms are absolutely great—a massive upgrade when you're living out of a trailer for three days. And the track food is surprisingly good and so affordable that we often don't even bother cooking; we just dine there all weekend.
But a word of warning: Shannonville is completely flat and exposed. The wind coming off the surrounding fields can be brutal. More than one canopy has taken flight on a Friday afternoon. Pro-tip: get there early to claim a spot near the power poles, bring heavy-duty tie-downs, and always pack an extra windbreaker.
When Jäger lines up on the grid here, you can feel the history. This is the same tarmac where legends of the Canadian Superbike Championship cut their teeth. The scale of the track makes the mini bikes look small, but the racing is as big as it gets.
